This premium Williamsport Cubs Baseball tee celebrates a unique chapter in Pennsylvania baseball history. The Cubs were a Minor League Baseball team of the Class A Short Season New York–Penn League based in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, playing as an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs from 1994 to 1998.
The team gained local popularity when it was announced in the fall of 1993 that a new franchise would be coming to town with the Geneva Cubs of the New York-Penn League moving to "Billtown" from Geneva, NY to begin play in 1994. This move brought professional baseball back to Williamsport after the historic Bowman Field, the second-oldest ballpark in minor league baseball which opened in 1926, had been without a team for two seasons. Prior to their inaugural season, new home locker room facilities were constructed, 900 new box seats were installed, and the press box was expanded at a cost of $400,000 to prepare the venue. The team had several successful seasons, including 1996 when they finished with a 43-32 record under manager Ruben Amaro. After the 1998 season, the team switched affiliations from the Chicago Cubs to the Pittsburgh Pirates and the team name became "the Crosscutters".
