The Ironmen were a professional football team based in Wheeling that began play in 1962 as a member of the United Football League, where they played for three seasons until that league dissolved.
The team gained immediate popularity among Ohio Valley fans when a group of 15 local business leaders each invested $1,000 to enter a club in the United Football League. Led by owner Michael Valan, the Ironmen quickly established themselves as a powerhouse, defeating the Grand Rapids Blazers 30-21 to win the UFL championship in their debut season and repeating as champions in 1963 by knocking off the Toledo Tornadoes 31-21. After the UFL folded in early 1965, Wheeling became a charter member of the new Continental Football League, along with four other former UFL teams. While the team struggled in its later years, experiencing financial difficulties that prompted them to file for bankruptcy in April 1968, the Ironmen remain a treasured part of Wheeling's sports history.
Our reproduction features the team's iconic logo with an authentically distressed, cracked, vintage feel that honors the original design while giving it that perfectly worn-in look of a treasured game-day shirt from the 1960s.
