Relive a cherished chapter in North Carolina baseball history with our exclusive Statesville Owls tribute t-shirt, celebrating one of the Tar Heel State's most storied minor league teams. The Statesville Owls were a minor league baseball team located in Statesville, North Carolina that played in the Western Carolina League from 1960-1962 and the Western Carolinas League in 1963.
The 1960s ball club was the last of three minor league teams in the small western North Carolina city to use the 'Owls' moniker, following the original Owls (1939-1942) and a post-WWII revival that played from 1947 until 1952. The Statesville club that formed in 1960 was one of eight founding members of the Western Carolina League, a Class D circuit that initially intended to develop prospects for the Continental League, a proposed third Major League set to debut in 1961.
The Owls briefly served as an affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels in 1961 but operated independently in 1960, 1962, and 1963. The 1962 Owls squad won the Western Carolina League championship with a 62-36 record under player/manager Bob Bralley, who led the team on a 40-17 stretch run to the pennant. Notable players included J.C. Snead, the nephew of golf legend Sam Snead, who led the league in runs scored and tied for the league lead in home runs in 1962 before following his uncle into the PGA Tour.
This t-shirt features our exclusive Statesville Owls logo with an authentically distressed, cracked, vintage feel that captures the nostalgic spirit of small-town minor league baseball. The design appears on the front only, with a clean, blank back.
