The 1984 Angels finished their only season with a solid .500 record at 70-70 and produced several future major leaguers during their brief existence. The team's standout player was 22-year-old first baseman Wally Joyner, who led the club in home runs (12) and RBIs (72) while batting an impressive .317 before going on to a successful major league career.
Despite their mediocre regular season record, the Angels made a strong playoff run in 1984, advancing all the way to the Eastern League championship series where they ultimately fell to the Vermont Reds (a Cincinnati Reds affiliate) in a hard-fought five-game series. Following the 1984 season, the California Angels organization pulled out of Waterbury, and the DiVito family (the team's owners) sold the franchise to Northeastern Baseball, Inc. from Pennsylvania for $350,000 in January 1985, leading to yet another affiliation change for the following season.
