Cafe Rouge T-Shirt - French Bistro Restaurant Industry Defunct Logo Tee
Wear a piece of Berkeley dining history. Cafe Rouge was a beloved French-influenced bistro and charcuterie in Berkeley, California, serving house-made pâtés, rotisserie meats, and Provençal-inspired cuisine since 1996. The restaurant became a cornerstone of Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto food scene, offering nose-to-tail butchery, artisanal charcuterie, and farm-to-table French bistro fare that attracted food-conscious Bay Area diners for over two decades.
Despite critical acclaim and a devoted Berkeley following, Cafe Rouge couldn't survive the mounting pressures facing independent restaurants. The COVID-19 pandemic delivering devastating losses through dining room closures and capacity restrictions, soaring Bay Area labor costs and difficulty staffing skilled kitchen positions, expensive Berkeley real estate and lease obligations, rising ingredient costs particularly for quality meats and artisanal products, operational challenges as founders aged and succession proved difficult, and mounting losses after pandemic disruptions created insurmountable strain. The restaurant closed permanently in 2021 after 25 years, ending this Berkeley bistro institution.
This tee features the Cafe Rouge logo with a distressed, cracked vintage aesthetic that honors the restaurant's charcuterie legacy.
