Their first model, the Hupmobile Runabout, was an immediate success at the 1909 Detroit Automobile Show, selling 1,600 units in its first year – an impressive achievement for a new automotive manufacturer. Despite building a solid reputation for quality engineering and innovative design throughout the 1920s, Hupmobile struggled during the Great Depression. After several attempts at recovery, including stylish models like the 1934 Aerodynamic and the beautiful 1940 Skylark, Hupmobile ceased production in July 1940 after three decades of automobile manufacturing.
